Kyle Palmer has 10 years of basketball experience ranging from youth leagues to NCAA Division I. Palmer was most recently the Men’s Assistant Coach at Grand View University under the 2009 Midwest Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year, Denis Schaefer. The 2008-09 season saw the Vikings finish the season 25-9. They won the regular season Midwest Collegiate Conference championship, and advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament, where they defeated Dakota Wesleyan University before falling to eventual National Champion Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Palmer spent two years at Montana Tech serving as the Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball Program and Associate Sports Information Director. At Tech, Palmer was the primary recruiter for the Oredigger Basketball Program and recruited the 2008 Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year. He served as the coach for the post players and had all three post players earn a post-season award in 2008. As Associate Sports Information Director, Palmer was in charge of all media relations and press releases for Oredigger Athletics. He coordinated all statistics for the fall sports, and he developed media guides and game day programs for Volleyball and Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

Prior to coaching at Montana Tech, Palmer spent two years at Walsh University in Canton, OH. He served as a graduate assistant under current Walsh Head Coach, Jeff Young who was the 2005 NAIA Division II Coach of the Year. In Palmer’s time at Walsh, the Cavaliers compiled a record of 54-15 and captured two American Mideast Conference championships. Walsh also advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament both seasons winning the National Championship in 2005 and advancing to the Elite Eight in 2006.

Before coaching at Walsh, Palmer spent the 2003-2004 season as a student assistant at Boise State University under 2008 WAC and District 13 Coach of the Year, Greg Graham. At Boise State Palmer assisted with on campus recruiting visits, organized the Broncos recruiting database, and assisted with practices. During his time at Boise, the Broncos went 23-10 advancing to the National Invitational Tournament where the defeated UNLV and UW-Milwaukee before falling to Marquette.

Palmer began his coaching career at Valley Christian Schools in Boise, ID in 1999. While there, he was a Junior High coach for two years before becoming the Varsity assistant. Palmer was the assistant coach for the Chargers in 2002 when they won the 1A State Championship. Palmer also coached for Ada County AAU basketball working with teams from the Boise area to prepare them for high school.

In all Palmer has worked with 4 different head coaches who have won Coach of the Year awards at their respective divisions. He has worked with 2005 NAIA Division II Player of the Year, and 2nd round NBA draft pick Robert Whaley, has coached one High School player of the year, 3 First Team All-Conference performers, 1 Conference Freshman of the Year, 1 Conference Newcomer of the Year, and 3 Conference Honorable Mention recipients.

Palmer is a 1998 graduate of Stevensville High School in Stevensville, MT, where played basketball for current Yellowjacket coach Keith Chambers. Palmer earned a B.A. in History from Boise State University and a M.A. in Education from Walsh University. Kyle is married to Melissa (Vandehey), and has a daughter, Kambree who was born July 2008.
